Netflix viewing hours in May 2023 declined 12% versus May 2022, driven by non-original series leaving the platform and strong original series performance last year. (April 29) released. Four of May’s top 5 watched series were originals, led by “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.”
The top five series watched were licensed shows currently airing on linear and releasing to the platform the next day. Viewership was led by season 4 of procedural drama “9-1-1: Lone Star” and season 6 of the competition show “American Idol.”
Amazon Prime Video hours watched increased by 9% on a per week basis. Originals accounted for all five top series watched in May. Season 5 of the period comedy-drama, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” released on April 14 and was the top title watched.
Netflix viewing hours in April 2023 declined 11% versus April 2022, driven by non-original series leaving the platform and strong original series performance last year. All five of April’s top watched series were originals, led by new action thriller “The Night Agent.” Staring Gabriel Basso, the series is based on a novel with the same name.
Hulu hours watched in April 2023 increased 7% year over year, driven by non-original viewership. Series viewership also drove growth in April, gaining 7% in hours watched compared to April 2022. The top five series watched were licensed shows currently airing on linear and releasing to the platform the next day. Viewership was led by season 19 of medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”, season 4 of procedural drama “9-1-1: Lone Star”, and season 6 of the competition show “American Idol”.
Amazon Prime Video hours watched in April 2023 increased 14% year over year, fueled by original viewership. Originals accounted for all five top series watched in April. Season 5 of the period comedy-drama, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” released on April 14 and was the top title watched. New Prime Originals, “The Power” and “Citadel” ranked #3 and #5 among series for April. Freevee series’ “Judy Justice” and “Jury Duty” ranked as the #2 and #4 in series on the platform.
Netflix viewing hours in March 2023 grew 2% versus March 2022, driven by originals (+8% year over year). All five of March’s top watched series were originals, led by new action thriller The Night Agent. Psychological thriller You ranked #3 in series watched this month after releasing part 2 of season 4 on March 9. Ranking #3 was February’s top title, season 3 of the mystery drama OuterBanks. The season released on February 23 and continued strong viewership through March.
Hulu hours watched in March 2023 increased 31% year over year, driven by original (+56% year over year) and non-original (+18% year over year) viewership. Series viewership also drove growth in March, gaining 21% in hours watched compared to March 2022. The top five series watched were licensed shows currently airing on linear and releasing to the platform the next day. Viewership was led by season 19 of medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, season 4 of procedural drama 9-1-1: Lone Star, and season 6 of drama Station 19.
Amazon Prime Video hours watched in March 2023 declined 7% year over year, fueled by non-original viewership. Original viewership declined 2% year over year but accounted for all five top series watched in March. Musical miniseries Daisy Jones and The Six debuted on March 3 and was the top title watched with 19 million hours. The series released two to three new episodes weekly throughout the month. Season 2 of fantasy series Carnival Rowand season 1 of dark comedy Swarmalso released in March, ranking #2 and #4 for the month.
