China’s foodservice consumers are planning to pull back spending across most retail categories in the coming month. Paired with high unemployment and a weak holiday effect, May’s foodservice results were sluggish. Where do consumers plan to slightly increase their spending in June? This month’s China Consumer Sentiment Study shares May 2026 performance and highlights the latest consumer attitudes and behavior.


Highlights: 


  • Average eater check remained stable in China and helped fuel foodservice growth

  • GLP-1 adoption remains low in China at 3%

  • Net household income growth and dining-out intention remained volatile

  • 22.9% of consumers expect to increase spending on dining out in June, up 0.2% from 2025
