Average number of distinct items on shelf across stores.

Definition

Average Items Carried measures the count of unique UPCs carried per store on average over a period.

How to Calculate

Sum the number of items carried across stores, divide by number of stores.

Why it Matters

It shows assortment depth and space allocation for your brand.

Key Advantages

Helps spot SKU gaps and right-size the lineup.

Example

If three stores carry 5, 6, and 7 SKUs, AIC is 6.

Use it to

Measure the average number of SKUs on shelf during the period. Compare to items selling to identify idle assortment and adjust planograms accordingly.
